Abstract:
The talk will provide a basic understanding of design science research in information technology.

It will start with a characterization of design and design science research by Late Nobel Laureate Herbert Simon through his seminal book, Sciences of the Artificial, and discussion of the many related terms and concepts. The talk will then briefly discuss the outputs of design science research, how it can be differentiated from product development, typical outputs of such research, its philosophical grounding, and its research methods. The talk will also review the current state of the art in how design science research can contribute to theory development in information technology.
