Abstract:
We live in a world of accelerated pace of change! Each one of us will be affected by future trends – in the social, economic and technological context. There will be tremendous challenges as well as opportunities.

Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India carried out a Nation wide Technology Road Mapping exercise called Technology Vision 2020; under the overall leadership of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India , who was then Chairman, TIFAC.

Shri Deepak Bhatnagar, formerly in TIFAC was directly involved in carrying out this exercise. He will share with us his experience and explain the concept of Technology Assessment & Forecasting. He will also give a glimpse of a few frontier technologies which will shape our lives in the 21st century.

Bio:
Prior to joining IIFT in July 2009, Mr. Deepak Bhatnagar was an Adviser with Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology (DST). He graduated in Metallurgical Engineering (1971) from IIT, Roorkee. Later, he also obtained Postgraduate Degrees in Industrial Engineering and Business Management. After around 20 years experience in Steel Industry (Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), Mr. Bhatnagar joined TIFAC in 1990. He has handled several programs related to Technology Development in the area of Metals and Materials, International Cooperation and Forecasting/Assessment studies. He played a leading role in Mission REACH programme which is one of the major follow-up activities of Technology Vision 2020 in the field of Higher Technical Education. Mr. Bhatnagar is an Adjunct Faculty in the area of Technology Management at several institutions in India. He was invited by the State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo to teach at their School of Management during spring 2008.
